Circa 2007/8: Krishanu takes a liking to photography. Cut to September 2018, Krishanu opens up his work, albeit a limited selection, to one and all. He actually says we are free to share, so sharing I am.
This past weekend, I have been through an experience most fascinating, rewarding and humbling.
Canto does the trick for me. Lovely owners, lovely ambience, great food, super location.
We think we are intelligent, so we begin to factor in variables, to arrive at approximately how long its going to take us to reach the top. So we figure perhaps three times longer going up, as compared to the time taken to make the descent? The variable based math was all wrong.
For the generation that has seen technology in the palm of your hand almost from birth, boys and girls I would like to say that, there was a time when there was no internet, and even worse, no cellular phones, only landlines to contend with, not to speak of the challenges of actually getting a landline (at least in India, way back). Yes people, those were the Dark Ages, very dark.
What was amazing was the way people looked at me. This was probably the very first time they had laid eyes on an Indian, or for that matter someone colored like me. I exaggerate not, when I say that whole villages came out just to get a look! I could now understand what white skinned people feel when they visit India, and everyone is just staring at them, nudging each other, and passing remarks.
Therefore, a decision was taken to parachute one of HSBC’s top generals (moi) into the heart of the action and take the battle to the HQ of Kanbay, Chicago.
I believe that unwittingly we have set them up to deal with a whole lot of things that we haven’t equipped them to deal with. We expected that our values, our beliefs, our culture would somehow be passed on to them without actually taking the trouble to impart any of it.
